John Dimitri Negroponte, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, will be posted to Iraq as ambassador and viceroy to usher in George W. Bush's brand of democracy in the Middle East. But did you know that in the mid-1960s Negroponte's first overseas assignment had been to the U.S. embassy in Saigon? From 1971 to 1973, Negroponte was the officer-in-charge for Vietnam at the National Security Council (NSC) under Henry Kissinger! More about that below.
